Nokia G22: DIY repairs

HMD Global is making a big deal of the way Nokia G22 owners can do their own repairs. But is it really important unless you’re clumsy?

Don’t get me wrong: I’m very much in favour of being able to repair things. But my issue with the G22 is that it comes with a three-year warranty and three years of security updates, so by the time it’s out of warranty, you’ll need a new phone that can run an up-to-date OS.

Still, if you make a habit of dropping your phone, then being able to buy a new screen for $90 and fit it yourself is probably a good thing. Or if you’re hard on the battery, then a $40 replacement part is pretty cheap.

But to put that into perspective, my iPhone 12 mini is more than two years old, its battery condition is 90%, and there isn’t a mark on the screen.
